Customers on the Essential plan can add open-ended questions, and customers on the Business or Premier plan can customise existing standard questions and add new driver and open-ended questions. Furthermore, customers on Business and Premier plan can also add their own custom drivers

1. Peakon questions overview

Every Peakon account comes with a ready-to-use question set that works hand in hand with our methodology

Account administrators are able to access and manage these questions. In addition, any non-admin user who has been granted access to administer questions will also see the “Questions” option in the left menu when they log into Peakon.

To access your Questions page:

  1. Click on the Administration option in the left menu and select Questions 
  2. To view engagement, driver and sub-driver questions, click on the Driver questions tab
  3. To view open-ended questions, click on the Open-ended questions tab

Each question group is configured differently on Peakon. 

2. Customising existing questions

Customising a question is a good option if you need to make a small tweak to a question. As Peakon uses standardised questions, it’s important that the meaning of the question is not altered when customising a question. For example, replacing “co-worker” with “colleague” would not alter the meaning of the question.

To customize a question:

  1. Click on the Edit option beside the toggle switch on the question. 
  2. Click on the Localisation option 
  3. A list of all the question translations will appear
  4. Customise the question in each relevant language employees will be taking the survey in
  5. Click on the green Update icon to save changes

The updated question will then appear for employees answering their survey in the relevant language.

Deactivating questions

Use the green toggle switch next to the question to deactivate that specific question. 

  • By switching the toggle off, the question will not be actively used in surveys
  • It is not possible to deactivate the main engagement question that appears first on the list
  • Deactivating a question is only advised when it is not applicable to your entire organisation, otherwise it is also possible to exclude certain segments from receiving this question

3. Targeting questions to specific segments

It’s possible to target certain questions to specific segments of employees. For example, targeting onboarding questions to new hires and offboarding questions to leavers is a good idea in order to get insights into their onboarding experience or in the case of leavers, specific questions about their choice to leave. This means that, along with the usual question set, users that meet the specified target will also receive the additional questions.

It is also possible to exclude certain segments from a question's target. One common use case would be excluding certain groups of workers from the Remote Work question, if this is not relevant to them.

 To target a question to a specific segment:

  1. Click on the Edit option on the question
  2. Click on the Advanced options to reveal question segmenting options. 

Only including is used when a question should only be asked to employees within a specific segment. This is an 'OR' condition which means that an employee does not have to be part of all listed segments to be included, but any of the listed is enough.

Excluding is used for excluding employees within specific segments from being asked the question.

4. Question frequency

When running a survey on an recurring automatic mode frequency (i.e. not a manual survey frequency) the question frequency determines how often an employee will be asked different types of questions. 

Engagement question set and custom question set frequency

The engagement and custom question set frequencies are set within each schedule, to ensure that these can differ from one schedule to another.

Open-ended question frequency

Open-ended question frequencies are set individually on each open-ended question, which can be managed on the open-ended questions tab within the Questions page. This also means that the frequency will apply to all schedules receiving this question.

5. Adding Custom Questions

Adding custom questions to the question library is a good option when there is no default question to cover a certain topic. It’s possible to add custom driver, sub-driver, and open-ended questions. For Business and Premier clients, it's also possible to add custom company driver(s).

When adding a custom driver question, you will be required to relate the question to a driver. We advise you to review our custom questions best practices and get in contact with our support team, who will be able to review the question and provide help in classifying the question under the relevant driver. 

To add a custom question, simply go into your Questions page under the Administration panel, click on the chosen question type and then click Add question.

6. Exporting the question set

To export your question set, go to the questions page and click the Export questions button in the top right corner. This will bring up the below slide-out panel, allowing you to make your selection, before exporting your questions.
